Final Stats

San Jose. Calif. - The San José State women's basketball team forced a season-high 27 turnovers, but couldn't take advantage and lost 77-63 to the San Diego State Aztecs (11-14, 8-7 MW) on Wednesday night in The Event Center.

The Spartans scored 24 points off the turnovers they forced, but saw SDSU get 18 points off 12 San José State miscues.

Facing a front line of 6-4 Cierra Warren, 6-2 Deidra Warren and 6-1 Kristina Hunter, the Spartans were dominated the glass 60-to-28. Smith and Hunter had double doubles: 20 points and 12 rebounds and 16 points and 14 rebounds, respectively. Warren added 16 points and six rebounds. The three were a combined 24-for-41 from the floor (59 percent) and as a team the Aztecs hit 53 percent (32-for-61).

Jasmine Smith's 15 points and nine rebounds led San José State. Ta'Rea Cunnigan and Rebecca Woodberry each scored 17 in the loss.

Britta Hall hit the first bucket of the game, a 3-pointer,to give the Spartans what would turn out to be their largest and only lead of the night.

The game was tied three times before a 9-0 run by SDSU opened an 18-to-9 lead with 10 minutes left before halftime.

A pair of Woodberry 3-pointers sandwiched around a Cunnigan layup quickly trimmed the advantage to a single point, 18-17,but that was a close as the Spartans would get for the rest of the game.

The Aztecs used their size to score 50 points in the paint and had a 22-to-11 advantage in second chance points.

San José State launched 38 shots from long range, the their third most 3-point attempts this year, but hit just eight and the San Diego State perimeter defense kept the Spartans from consistently getting to the basket.

The Spartans next game is at Utah State on Saturday, March 1. Tip off in Logan, Utah is set for 7:00 p.m. (MT).
