Waikoloa, Hawai'i - The San Jose State men's golf team had four of its five players shoot par or better but moved up just one spot on the leader board in round two of the 24th Amer Ari Invitational.
The Spartans improved their team score by three stokes over yesterday, after a one-under par 287 today. With a 36-hole total of one-over par 577, the Spartans find themselves in 17th place with 18 holes to play.
Sophomore Cody Blick shot his 10 sub-par round of the year with a one-under 71 on Friday. He went out in two-over after back-to-back bogeys on the fifth and sixth. On his inward nine, he birdied the 10th and 11th to get back to even par. He also birdied the 14th and then recorded four straight pars to close out his round. He is tied for 43rd place at 141 (-3).
Freshman Marcus Potter birdied two of his first four holes on the 7,074-yard, par 72 Kings Course and reached the turn at one-under par. He had three bogeys and a pair of birdies on his back nine for an even-par 72 and two round total of 145 (+1). He is tied for 74th place.
After a three-over par 75 in Thursday's opening round, Daniel Semmler, a senior from Belmont, Calif., came back with a steady even-par round today. He carded 16 pars, a bogey on the fifth and a birdie on the 14th for a 72. His two-round total of 147 (+3) leaves him tied in 91st place.
Landon Polterock started the day with a bogey on his first hole, the par-3 third. He got the stroke back with a birdie on the sixth and then another on the seventh to move to one-under par. He stayed there until a bogey on the 17th hole, his 15th of the day. He closed with three pars and an even-par 72. He is at three-over par 147 for the tournament and is tied for 91st place.
Junior Felix Möesmang was one-over par through 11 holes, but went four-over on his last seven and signed for a five-over par 77. He is in a tie for 103rd place with a two round total of 149 (+5).
The Oklahoma State maintained its lead in the team competition after 36 holes. Their 548 total (-28) is two strokes better than Oregon (550). Stanford's Cameron Wilson shot a seven-under par 65 to take a one-stroke lead over three players.
