Long Beach, Calif. --- Freshman Marie Klocker and junior Julianna Bacelar each secured single wins for the San José State University women's tennis team (2-6), but the #46-ranked Long Beach State (5-1) swept doubles play, taking the 5-2 victory over the Spartans.

"We fought really hard but came up short," said head coach Sylvain Malroux. "We gave ourselves a lot of opportunities and we need to be able to take them when it is time."

Playing at the #1 position, Klocker went into a super tiebreaker after falling to Ebba Unden in the first set 6-7 (4-7). Klocker was able to fight back, winning her second set 6-3 and the tiebreaker 10-8.

Bacelar won the second point for San José State after defeating Long Beach State's Karolina Rozenberg in straight sets, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. With this win, Bacelar improves her overall singles record to 13-4 and her dual match record to 6-1.

"Julianna and Marie did a really good job both playing and fighting well." concluded Malroux.

The Spartans conclude their weekend competition on Sunday, February 8, as they travel to San Diego, Calif. to face the #59 University of Utah in a non-conference dual match. Match play begins at 11:00 a.m. (PT) at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center located on the University of San Diego campus.
