San Diego, Calif. --- The San José State University women's tennis team concluded its weekend's competition against two more nationally-ranked teams falling to the #59 University of Utah, 6-1.
The Spartans' duo of Marie Klocker and Justine Deleval won their doubles match against Utah's Sarah Pham and Callie Craig, 8-5. However, Utah (2-1) secured the doubles point with wins in the #1 and #2 posititons.
In singles, senior Sabastiani Leon Chao playing in the #4-position for the first time this season scored the only point for San José State (2-7) after topping Sarah Richter in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
It was Leon Chao's 116th career victory and she is one win away from passing Ashley Tavita and moving into second on the 100-career wins list.
Klocker, Gaelle Rey and Julianna Bacelar each went to three sets in their singles matches, but lost in the third set. Klocker and Bacelar dropped their respective third sets by identical 6-4 scores making the final team score much more one-sided.
The Spartans hit the courts again on Friday, February 14, traveling to the University of San Francisco. San José State then hosts Cal Poly on Saturday, February 15.
