For the second year in a row, San Jose State University will open its football season with a Thursday night home game.
The Spartans' contest with the University of North Dakota now will take place on Thursday, August 28, in Spartan Stadium with a 7:00 p.m. game time.
"I'm excited to have the season kick off with the home opener on a Thursday in lieu of the traditional Saturday because I anticipate a great response from our student body," said San Jose State head coach Ron Caragher, now in his second season with the Spartans. "Playing on that Thursday coincides with school starting (August 25) and we'll have a great chance to have a great crowd. Last year, we had a great student turnout with our home opener on a Thursday vs. Sacramento State."
The North Dakota game is the first of five home games for the 2014 San Jose State team. UND was 3-8 overall and 2-6 in the Big Sky Conference a year ago. San Jose State was 6-6 and 5-3 in its first season in the Mountain West Conference.
The Spartans also host Nevada on September 27, UNLV on October 4, Colorado State on November 1 and Hawaii on November 15 in conference home games. Any of those four contests could be moved off of Saturday to accommodate a Mountain West television assignment.
"We're very excited about the 2014 season. I think people will want to see how the Spartans will be (this year) and this (the North Dakota game) will be a great opportunity to come out on a Thursday night for the home opener," added the Spartans' head coach.
