#10-Spartans Head To Aztec Invite With #8-Princeton & #20-Wagner

Bridgeport, Pa.----- For the third week in a row, San Jose State University is ranked tenth in the Collegiate Water Polo Association national women's water polo coaches poll.

The Spartans (13-9, 0-2 MPSF) face a pair of top-20 teams, #8-Princeton and #20-Wagner, on March 15 & March 16 at Aztec Invitational on the San Diego State campus. San Jose State takes on Princeton at 2:15 p.m. in the second half of its March 15 doubleheader after opening the Aztec Invitational with Bucknell at 9:15 a.m. The Spartans open the final day's play on March 16 with Wagner at 8:00 a.m. followed with a match against Harvard at 2:15 p.m.

San Jose State faced four top-10 teams in its last six matches. Other than a 90-second third-quarter, three-goal blitz by #3-Stanford, the Spartans were in every contest and came away with a 10-9 win against #6-Hawaii.

Heading into the final third of the season, San Jose State is one of the nation's highest scoring teams averaging more than 12 goals a match. There are four Spartans with 30 or more goals this season led by freshman Clara Espar Llaquet, who is second in scoring in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with 64 goals and a 2.91 goals per match average. Teammate Rae Lekness remains in the top-five of MPSF scorers with 58 goals for a 2.64 average. Co-captain Timi Molnar with 37 goals and junior Victoria Smithwith 30 give the Spartans four 30-goal scorers for 2014.

Bucknell, the Spartans' first Aztec Invitational opponent, has a 5-4 win loss record after a March 11 loss to #20-Cal Baptist. The Bisons have three matches in Southern California before the Aztec Invitational

Princeton comes into the Aztec Invitational with a 13-0 win loss record and four wins over top-20 teams. San Jose State will be the highest-ranked team the Tigers are facing in regular-season play.

#20-Wagner has a 10-8 win-loss record. Earlier in the season, the Seahawks defeated #20-Michigan, 9-8, a team San Jose State defeated, 14-6, in the Stanford Invitational. Harvard is 8-6 after losses to Michigan and Santa Clara in its Harvard Invitational. The Spartans topped Santa Clara, 15-5, at the Aggie Shootout in Davis, Calif., on February 15.
