#10-Spartans Start Aztec Invitational With 17-4 Win Over Bucknell

San Diego, Calif.----- San Jose State University scored on its first four shots and went on to a 17-4 win over Bucknell University in the Aztec Invitational women's water polo tournament.

Freshman Clara Espar Llaquet led the way offensively for the #10-ranked Spartans with four goals increasing her season total to 68. Timi Molnar and Victoria Smith with three each and Rae Leknesswith a pair were three more multi-goal scorers for San Jose State. Nine Spartans scored in the team's most one-sided win since an 18-3 victory over Fresno Pacific in the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invitational on January 25.

"We came out strong and that paved the way. We were consistent the whole way and our defense was really strong," said interim head coach Johnny Bega.

Freshman Katelynn Thompson started in goal for San Jose State. She made four saves and allowed one first Bucknell goal. Maddie Reardonwas the goalkeeper in the second half and was credited with two saves.

San Jose State closes out the day taking on undefeated #8-Princeton (15-0) at 2:15 p.m. (PT). The Tigers won their first game of the tournament, 13-12, over #13-ranked UC San Diego with a sudden-death goal.
