The Spartans ended the day in fourth place at 604 after shooting 305-299, and trails leader Boise State by seven shots. San José State was tied with Cal State Northridge after the first round at 305. The Matador's Clariss Guce shot a 67 in the second round to card a 143 after two rounds and has a three-shot lead over Samantha Martin of Boise State.
"Our short game was poor today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We had a bad day putting and will be spending more time working on that tonight. We missed some down-wind par 5s, and if we missed greens, we were poor getting the ball up-and-down. This was very disappointing after the way we played at our last tournament. We have to go out tomorrow and make putts."
Final round action begins Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Live scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com.
