36-Hole Results

Creswell, Ore. - The San Jose State men's golf team dug themselves a hole by shooting 31-over par (607) and find themselves in 16th place after 36-holes of the 2014 Duck Invitational. Justin Estrada is the best placed Spartans, in a tie for 20th place at three-over par.

"We struggled with a lot of different things today," head coach John Kennaday said after the round. "This is a tough golf course. It's not super penalizing on any one hole, but if you start making bogeys, it can easily turn into a bogey train. That's what happened to us. We just have to put today behind us and give it our best tomorrow."

Justin Estrada was four-over after his first four holes of the par-72, 7,165 yard Emerald Valley Golf Club, but carded three birdies and a bogey the rest of the way and signed for a 74 (+2) in his opening 18 holes. He opened his second round with two birdies on the first three holes and made the turn at one-under. He shot two-over par on his back nine for a 73 (+1). Estrada's two round total is 147 (+3) and he is tied for 20th place.

Cody Blick had four bogeys and shot a 76 (+4) in his opening round. He was two-over par after 12 holes of his 18 before he eagled the par-5, 558 yard 8th hole. He backed the eagle up with a birdie to get to one-under, but two bogeys in his final four holes left him with a one-over (73). He is tied for 29th place with a two round total of 149.

Landon Polterock was four over par through nine holes before he recorded his first birdie. He finished his first 18 holes at eight-over par (80). On his second 18, he birded three of his first five holes, but couldn't maintain the momentum. Polterock signed for a 76 (+4), a 36-hole total of 156 and is tied for 68th place.

Daniel Semmler double bogeyed his first hole of the tournament and found himself at seven over after 13 holes. He birdied three of his final five holes for a four-over par 76 on his first 18. He bogeyed the first hole of his second 18 and never got on track from there. He was nine-over par for the 18 and is at 13-over par after 36 holes. He is in a tie for 76th place.

Marcus Potter never got anything going. He opened with an 11-over par 83 in round one, improved his score in the second round to a 79 and is 18-over par after 36-holes and in a tie for 85th place.

"We didn't play very well today," head coach John Kennaday said, "but I guarantee we will come out tomorrow and play much better.

With 18 holes to play, Pacific's Byron Meth leads the tournament for individual medalist honors. He is at three-under par (141) and has a one shots lead over Minnesota's Jose Mendez. The team competition has Oregon State with a two-stroke advantage over host Oregon. The Beavers two-round total is 582 (+6). Oregon sits at eight-over par (584).

San José State tees off in the final round at 8:30 a.m. on the 13th-16th holes and playing with Gonzaga, Santa Clara and Pacific. Fans can follow the action at www.golfstat.com.
