Kapalua, Maui--Megan Osland shot her lowest round of the season, and the San José State women's golf team is third after the first round of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at The Bay Course in Kapalua, Maui.

Osland shot a one-under 71 and finished the day tied for fourth place, one shot out of first place. Her round included her first eagle of the year, a "3" on the par-5, 451-yard #15. She was one of three players, including teammate Kim Cifuentes, to record an eagle on the hole, and one of five to record an eagle during the round. Osland hit her hybrid 195 yards onto the green and made a 30-foot putt for the eagle.

Starting her round on #12, Osland was two-under through her first nine holes (12-2) including her eagle. She made a bogey on #3, followed by a birdie on #6, a bogey on #9 and ended with two pars. For the day, Osland had 14 pars, one birdie, two bogeys and the eagle.

Kathleen Rojas recorded three birdies in her round and finished the day at one-over 73. She is tied for 10th with Alessandra Arza of Pepperdine. Rojas started on #11 and was even after her first eight holes and made pars on #1, 2 and 3 before bogeys on #4 and #7. She finished the round strong with a birdie on the par-5 #10.

Regan De Guzman, My Leander and Rachelle Reali each shot a 76 and are tied for 26th. De Guzman, starting on #9, was even through her first 10 holes, making a bogey on #11 but rebounding with a birdie on #16. However, she made five bogeys and birdie over holes 2-7 to end the day at 76.

Leander, who started on #10, made one bogey (#11) over her first nine holes before making three bogeys over her next nine holes for her 76. She made 14 pars and no birdies on her round. Reali made two birdies on her round including her final hole of the day, a three on the par-4 #9.

San José State finished the day at 296 and is currently in third place. The team is six shots behind co-leaders Pepperdine and Washington, and two shots in front of UC Davis.

"We shot a pretty good score on a course where every hole is unique and different," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "Megan was very steady and made very few mistakes, while Kathleen played well as her course management was better, and she kept the ball in the fairway.

"Our short game was better overall for us today. On this course, you have to take advantage of the holes that are not exposed to the wind and make birdie opportunities. It is very windy on the exposed holes, and you have to hit it solid into the wind.

Four other Spartans are competing at the tournament as individuals. Alexandra Kristofersson shot a 75 and is currently tied for 21st. She made two birdies on her round and was under par until her final two rounds. Stephanie Gibri and Cifuentes each shot an 83 and are tied for 76th. Annie Sabater shot an 86 and is tied for 84th.

Second round action begins with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. HST/10:45 a.m. PDT. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
