San José, Calif. --- The San José State University women's tennis team won the doubles point and two singles matches against #71 Santa Clara University, but fell short to the Boncos, 4-3 in a non-conference dual match.
The doubles team of Marie Klocker and Justine Deleval started match off strong, defeating Stephanie Skaras and Nicolette Wolny, 8-6.
The duo of Julianna Bacelar and Jessica Willett clinched the doubles point for the Spartans (5-9) after they topped Santa Clara's (6-3) doubles team of Chelby Cooke and Delphine Rouvillois, 8-6.
In singles play, senior Sabastiani Leon Chao and freshman Gaelle Rey each won their matches for San José State.
Leon Chao finished first in singles and earned the second point for the Spartans after defeating Cooke in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
After falling in the first set, Rey was able to fight back in the second and third set, topping Rouvillois, 6-7, 6-1, 7-5.
The Spartans are back at the Spartan Tennis Complex on Tuesday, March 11, as they host Southern Utah and Youngtown State. Play begins at 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
