#8/#7-Arizona Defeats Spartans In Judi Garman Classic Finale

Fullerton, Calif. - The San José State University softball team was defeated, 8-1, by #8/#7-Arizona at the Judi Garman Classic in the final day of the tournament, hosted by the Titans, on Sunday.

The Wildcats (23-3), the third top-20 ranked opponent the Spartans (11-11) faced in Fullerton, scored its eight runs off of nine hits. Two of Arizona's hits were triples in the fourth inning, and four of its eight runs were scored in that frame.

The Spartans' lone run of the game came in the fifth inning. With runners on second and third, Michelle Cox bunted to third base. Nicole Schultz, who hit a lead-off single, crossed home plate for the 8-1 final score.

All six of San José State's hits came from different batters, with Cox driving in and Schultz scoring the Spartans' run.

Starter Katelyn Linford (3-5) scattered all nine of the Wildcats' hits. In 4.1 innings of work, she allowed eight earned runs, striking out and walking one batter each. Allison Lang threw 1.2 no-hit innings in relief, fanning two batters and walking one.

Nancy Bowling (6-0) allowed the Spartans' run and four of their hits. She struck out four batters in 5.0 innings in the circle for Arizona.

At the tournament, Jessica Garcia led San José State at the plate. She batted .308 (4-for-13) with one run scored, two RBI and her sixth home run of the season.

San José State debuts at SJSU Field for the first time this season on Thursday, March 13, at 12:00 p.m. against New Mexico State.
