San José, Calif. --- Freshman Gaelle Rey and junior Julianna Bacelar each contributed a singles win for the team, but the San José State University women's tennis team fell 5-2 in a conference dual match against #74-Fresno State.
At the #2 singles position, Rey topped Fresno State's (11-8, 4-0 MW) Rana Sherif Ahmed in the first set 6-4 and secured the win after defeating Sherif Ahmed 7-6 (4) in the tiebreaker set.
Bacelar picked up the second win for the Spartans (9-13, 0-3 MW) after defeating Sofya Malysheva, 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles competition against the Bulldogs, Rey teamed up with Marie Klocker at the #1 doubles spot, defeating Anneka and Sophie Watts, 8-7. This was the only doubles win for San José State.
Playing at the #2 position, the doubles team of Bacelar and Jessica Willett fought to the finish, falling 8-7 against Malysheva and Sherif Ahmed. Justine Deleval and Sabastiani Leon Chao also had a close finish as they were topped by Fresno's duo of Anne Susdorf and Tanya Murtagh, 8-6.
The Spartans compete in their last home match of the season on Friday, April 18 as they recognize their graduating senior for Senior Day. Match play begins at 12:00 p.m. (PT) at the Spartan Tennis Complex located near Spartan Stadium.
