Napa, Calif.--Spartan women's golfer Regan De Guzman recorded her second top-five finish of the season as she and My Leander each shot a 73 in the final round of the Silverado Showdown at the Silverado Resort & Spa North Course Tuesday. San José State finished seventh in the team standings.
De Guzman finished the tournament at five-under 211 (67-71-73), four shots behind winner SooBin Kim of Washington who finished at -9. De Guzman made one birdie on her round, the par-4, 375-yard #10, and 15 pars to shoot her 73. She ended the tournament tied for third in birdies made with 13.
Leander made four birdies on her round of 73. She finished the tournament tied for 25th at 223 and made six birdies over the three rounds.
"Regan had a good finish today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "She struggled a bit during her round and had the opportunity to make putts in the middle of her round. It was also nice to see My make some putts and birdies."
Megan Osland recorded her third 76 of the tournament and finished tied for 38th at 228. She made back-to-back birdies on holes 16 and 17 in her final round.
Kathleen Rojas shot a 78 and finished tied for 56th at 234, while Rachelle Reali was 62nd at 236 with a final-round 80.
San José State shot a 300 in the final round to finish seventh at 894. The Spartans were top-finishing Mountain West team at the tournament and finished ahead of four teams ranked in the top-50 Golfstat rankings.
"We beat some teams that we wanted," said Dormann. "We did not start the round strong but rallied in the middle before falling off a bit at the end. We need to start and finish rounds strong and better. Now, we have to have a good week of practice to get ready for the Mountain West Championship next week."
San José State competes next at the 2014 Mountain West Championship, April 24-26, on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
