San Jose, Calif. - The San José State University softball team was no-hit by Fresno State and dropped their Mountain West series finale, 2-0.
The Spartans lost their second-straight conference series after splitting their doubleheader on Tuesday.
The Spartans (25-20, 9-6 MW) were no-hit for the first time this season. Fresno State pitcher Jill Compton's (17-7) second-career no-hitter featured seven strikeouts and five walks.
The Bulldogs (26-17, 10-5 MW) scored their first run of the game in the third inning. With runners on second and third, a groundout to second base allowed the Brenna Moss to score the 1-0 run.
A two-out RBI-single plated the game's final run in the sixth inning for the 2-0 score.
San José State's best scoring chance came in the bottom of the frame. Michelle Cox reached on a fielder's choice and, with two outs, Jessie Hufstetler was intentionally walked. But a pop up in foul territory stranded the runners on base.
Spartan pitcher Madison Fish (8-4) scattered six hits in the complete game loss. She allowed two earned runs, fanned two batters and walked one.
San José State travels to Reno this weekend, opening the series at Nevada on Friday, April 25 at 4:00 p.m.
