Second Round Results

Rancho Mirage, Calif.--Two Spartan women's golfers remain in the top-10, with all five golfers in the top-25, and the San José State University women's golf team is fourth after two rounds at the 2014 Mountain West Championship. The tournament is being played at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at the Mission Hills Golf Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Regan De Guzman is tied for fifth after shooting an even-par 72, and has a one-over 145 for two rounds. She started her first nine holes with birdies on #2 and #9 and a bogey on #8, to shoot a one-under 35. De Guzman went to two-under par with a birdie on #10, before a bogey on #11 and a double bogey on #14 found her one-over par. She rebounded in the final four holes, going par-par-birdie-par for her 72.

Megan Osland moved up to a tied for 10th place at 149 after shooting a three-over 75 in the second round. She made 16 pars on her round including her first nine holes played on the day. Her only two non-par holes were a bogey on #10 and a double bogey on #15. Osland leads the field in pars made with 30.

First round co-leader My Leander is now 19th at 152 after shooting an 81 in the second round. She did not make a birdie on her round and had double bogeys on #6 and #11.

Rachelle Reali is 21st at 153 after shooting a 77 on Friday. After starting her first nine holes at +4, she made pars on eight of her last nine holes.

Kathleen Rojas improved to 25th at 154 after shooting a 76 in the second round. She made birdies on two of her first four holes and made seven consecutive pars (#9-15) on her round.

"I thought we played well today except for the fact that we did not make enough birdie putts," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We have to take advantage of the opportunities given to us, and today we did not do that. We cannot make the number of double bogeys (6) that we did today.

"We salvaged the round on #18 with five pars. Regan had a nice birdie on #17, a hole that had been playing tough all day."

San Jose State ended the day in fourth place at 594 after shooting a 300. The Spartans are just one shot behind third-place UNLV (593) and four shots from first-place team New Mexico (590).

"Tomorrow, the wind could be a factor if the weather predictions hold true. This tournament could come down to a team's short game," said Dormann. "We need five good scores in the final round, especially if the conditions determine what a good score will be. We have a chance, and anything can happen."

Final round action begins at 7 a.m., with the Spartans starting the final round between 7:45 a.m. and 8:21 a.m. The Spartans will play with Boise State and San Diego State.
