Eugene, Ore. - After shooting a 74 in the second round of the 2014 NCAA West Region Golf Championship, San José State men's golfer Cody Blick moved up eight spots into a tie for 46th place. With 18 holes to play, Blick has a 150 (+10) total.

Blick, starting on the 10th hole, began the second round with five straight pars. Then on the 440-yard par 4 15th, his six hole of the day, he suffered his first hiccup. Blick double bogeyed the hole, and then two holes later dropped another shot to slip to three-over par. He made the turn at that number.

Blick birdied the third hole, his 12th of the day, a 425-yard par four and repeated the feat on the 545-yard par 5 sixth to get back to one-under par through 16 holes.

Blick couldn't maintain his momentum. He double bogeyed the seventh hole and then bogeyed the ninth. He reached the clubhouse with a 74 (+4).

"This course is a lot like Pasatiempo (Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif.)," head coach John Kennaday said. "You can put the ball a foot from the pin and if it's on the wrong side of the hole, it will end up off the green. That's what happened to Cody a couple of times today. He really played great and just had a couple of hiccups which turned into a couple of big numbers. He has 18 holes to play and the abiltiy to go low, so we'll see what happens tomorrow."

With the 6,990-yard par 70 Eugene (Ore.) Country Club playing more than a stroke harder on Friday (74.88) than Thursday (73.84), and among the 75 competitors in the Championship, Blick was one of 25 to shoot a lower score on today (74) as compared to yesterday (76).

Stanford, which led the team competition by four shots after the first round, increased its lead to nine strokes on Friday. The Cardinal has a 558 total with Oklahoma in second place at 567. For the second day in a row, Stanford's Patrick Rogers shot the low round of the day, a three-under par 67. He has a six-shot lead heading into the final round.

The low individual after the three rounds, not on one of the five advancing team, will qualify for the 2014 NCAA Men's Golf Championships, May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.

Final round action begins at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. Blick tees off on the 10th hole at 9:42 a.m. Fan can follow the action with live hole-by-hole scoring at www.golfstat.com.
