Center David Peterson Named To Rimington Trophy Watch List

Lincoln, Neb.----- San Jose State University senior-to-be David Petersonis one of 64 players named to the 2014 Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List recognizing the best football centers in the country.

Last season, Peterson moved into the starting lineup in the third game and remained a starter the rest of the way. His insertion into the starting lineup coincided with a consistent surge in the Spartans offensive productive. San Jose State averaged 147.1 yards per game rushing in the final 10 contests compared to 88.5 in the first two games. The Spartans averaged 530.1 yards of total offense per game to finish with a school single-season record average of 493.2 yards per game.

Peterson will be entering his fifth season in the San Jose State program. He became a Spartan in 2010 after earning CalHi Sports second-team all-state honors playing for East Valley High in Redlands, Calif.

This fall, Peterson expects to begin work on a master's degree in educational counseling after majoring in psychology as an undergrad.

The Rimington Trophy is named after Dave Rimington, a two-time consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska and the only Outland Trophy double winner as the top college interior offensive lineman.
