San Jose, Calif.----- Jared Leaf, a linebacker on the San Jose State University football team, addressed local media members for the first time after 40 days of hospitalization.
The 20-year-old Leaf was the only victim in an April 23 late night, off-campus apartment fire. He was diagnosed with second-degree burns on the upper half of his body.
The communication studies major from Martinez, Calif., was looking forward to the end of the 2014 spring semester and the start of his junior season when the Spartans would report for preseason drills on July 31.
