Lexington, Va.----- The San José State University women's swimming and diving program is one of eight Mountain West Conference programs to be honored with a Spring 2014 Team Scholar-Athlete All American Award by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

Coached by Sage Hopkins, the 27-member Spartans accumulated a team grade-point average of 3.32 for the most recent semester.

The CSCAA honored 150 NCAA Division I women's swimming and diving programs for achieving a team grade-point average of 3.00 or higher. Minnesota was the national leader at 3.86.

San José State received a similar honor in 2013 when the team was credited with a team grade-point average of 3.24.

During the 2013-14 academic year, 18 Spartans were named Academic All-Mountain West for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or better while participating in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions. In addition, co-captain and graduating senior Darcie Anderson was named a second-team Capital One Academic All-America in the women's at-large category.

New Mexico, UNLV, Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Wyoming and Colorado State were the other Mountain West programs honored.

San José State was tops among the three San Francisco Bay Area schools that sponsor an NCAA Division I women's swimming and diving program. California and Stanford both were honored, too, with a 3.27 team grade-point average for the 2014 Spring term.
