Golfer Regan De Guzman Qualifies For U.S. Women's Amateur

Oakland, Calif.----- San Jose State University's Regan De Guzman, a two-time first-team all-conference golfer, earned an invitation to the 2014 U.S. Women's Amateur championship as one of eight qualifiers at the Sequoyah Country Club.

De Guzman, a junior-to-be from the Philippines, turned in a score of two-over par 72. A score of 73 or better in the 60-player field was necessary to advance to the U.S Women's Amateur, August 4-10, at the Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, N.Y.

There will be 156 players playing 36 holes of stroke play on August 4 & 5. The low 64 players advance to the medal play portion of the Championship that starts on August 6. The Golf Channel will provide television coverage.

San José State has rich history in the U.S. Women's Amateur. LPGA and San José State Sports Hall of Fame member Juli Inkster became the third player and the first since Virginia Van Wie in 1934 to win three consecutive U.S. Women's Amateur championships with her third victory in 1982. Pat Hurst, also enshrined in the San José State Sports Hall of Fame, was the medalist at the 1989 championship and the 1990 champion.
