Tyler Ervin Named To CFPA's Watch List For Kick Returners

July 18, 2014

Davidson, N.C.----- San José State University's Tyler Ervin is one of 42 players named to the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Watch List for kickoff returners.

The junior from Colton, Calif., is the San José State school record holder for kickoffs returned for a touchdown in a season and a career. He shares the Spartan record of two in a season with Charles Pauley in 2002 and Jimmie Lassiter in 1970. Ervin heads into 2014 with three in his career. His kickoff returns for touchdowns came at Utah State in 2011 and at San Diego State and at UTSA in 2012. He has a career kickoff return average of 25.4 yards per return.

At the end of the 2013 season, he was one of 13 active players with three or more kickoff returns for a touchdown in a career.

Ervin is the fifth Spartan to receive 2014 preseason recognition from the College Football Performance Awards group.

Now in its seventh year, the College Football Performance Awards program prides itself on using the most scientifically rigorous measurements to select its weekly and yearly award winners. Performance is measured to the extent a player increases the overall effectiveness of his team. The CFPA ranks player and team success across all three phases of the game -- offense, defense, and special teams.

In 2013, San Jose State players were recognized 19 times during the season by the College Football Performance Awards program.
