Adriana Vogt New Women's Water Polo Assistant Coach

July 24, 2014

Adriana Vogt, the San José State University women's water polo career scoring leader, was named the team's new assistant coach. Johnny Bega, the Spartans' head coach made the announcement.

Vogt played for the Spartans during the 2008 through 2011 seasons and scored 245 goals. The two-time All-American was a third-team selection in 2010 and a first-team choice in 2011 when she set the single-season school scoring record of 86 goals.

After completing her college career, she was a volunteer assistant coach at Santa Clara University in 2012. She began her coaching career in the 2011 fall season coaching youth teams at Stanford University and also coached girls 18-and-under at the Burlingame (Calif.) Aquatic Club.

"I'm super excited. I'm most excited about the amount of learning that I can get coaching under Johnny and the different elements of what happens on and off the pool deck, because there is a lot people don't see what college coaches put into it," says Vogt.

"I think it makes it much more heartfelt, because you always want your alma mater to do well. I think after Lou (Tully, the former head coach) passing away, coming back means more than before, because of what he meant to me and my experience before at San José State and the things he instilled in me as a player and a person. I want to give the experiences he gave to me to other players, pass along those traditions, and have Johnny give his own way of doing things," concludes the new Spartans assistant coach.
