Honolulu, Hawaii----- San José State University linebacker Christian Tagois one of 40 players named to the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award watch list.
The new awards program founded by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame will honor the most outstanding Polynesian college football player that epitomizes great ability and integrity.
Tago is the Spartans' top returning tackler from the 2013 team. He was credited with 90 tackles, led the team with 10.5 tackles for loss, shared the team lead with 4.0 quarterback sacks and intercepted a pass last season as a redshirt freshman. Earlier in the summer, he was named to the College Football Performance Awards Watch list for linebackers.
The watch list players were selected based on past performance and future potential. Five finalists will be announced on November 20. The inaugural winner will be announced on December 9 and presented January 23, 2015 during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame enshrinement Weekend in Hawaii.
Former San Jose State head coach Dick Tomey is the chair of the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee. San José State alum and one-time University of Utah football coach Ron McBride also serves on the Selection Committee.
