LAST TIME OUT: A goal given up in the 42nd minute was the difference in a 1-0 loss for the San José State women's soccer team in its 2014 season opener versus Lamar last Friday at Spartan Soccer Field. Lamar's Alexus Aviles took a pass from the right side of the box and shot the ball over SJSU goalkeeper Zoe Makrigiannis for the match's only score.
THE Lauren Hanson ERA BEGINS: Hanson became the program's sixth head coach in December of 2013. A winner of NCAA Women's College Cup championships as a player (University of Portland, 2002) and an assistant coach (University of Portland, 2005), Hanson came to the Spartans from the University of Oregon where she was the associate head coach and the Ducks' recruiting coordinator.
LEADERS RETURN FOR 2014: San José State returns its top three goal scorers from 2013: Lupita Estrada (4G, 1A), Karelli Rodriquez (2G, 2A) and Alexis Venegas (2G, 1A). All three recorded over 1,200 minutes of action last season and accounted for 21 of the team's 29 total points.

SCOUTING UC DAVIS: The Aggies enter Friday's match after a 1-0 defeat to No. 24 San Diego State in Aug. 24. The result pushed UC Davis' overall record to 1-1-0. UC Davis is led by sophomore Celina Minissian with one goal and two points on the season.
THE SERIES WITH THE AGGIES: San José State trails the all-time series against UC Davis 2-4-2. The teams last met in September, 2012 at Aggies Soccer Stadium, where UCD walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Spartans.
SCOUTING SACRAMENTO STATE: The Hornets come into the weekend with a 1-1 record after dropping their first match to UC Davis (1-0), then earning the win against Pacific (1-0). Sacramento State is led by sophomore Jennifer Lum, who put home a shot off the crossbar with 12 seconds left in the second overtime to give the Hornets their first win over Pacific.
THE SERIES WITH THE HORNETS: San José State trails the all-time series 6-10-3 with Sacramento State. The two teams met last season in Sacramento. The Hornets' Alyssa Anderson scored the match's only goal to defeat the Spartans 1-0.
A NEW HOME FOR SPARTAN SOCCER: SJSU men and women's soccer have a new home in 2014. All home matches will be played at Spartan Soccer Field located at South Campus on Alma Street, between Seventh street and Senter Road.
