Volleyball Drops Two Matches At Cal Poly SharesSLO Tournament

San Luis Obispo, Calif.--Nandyala Gama led the Spartans in kills in the team's two matches at the Cal Poly SharesSLO Tournament Saturday. The San José State volleyball team lost to host Cal Poly 3-0, and Bakersfield 3-1.

Against Cal Poly, the Spartans hit -.012 for the match. Gama led the team with five kills as the team had just 17 kills over the three sets. Yavianliz Rosado had 12 digs to lead the Spartans. San José State did outblock the Mustangs, 10-7, including four solo blocks. Sara Hibbs again led the team with five blocks, one solo and four assists.

In the team's final match of the tournament, two Spartans recorded double-digit kills - Gama with 14 and Tyanna Roy with 13. Rosada recorded a season-best 23 digs, while Allison Meehan had 32 assists, five digs and two blocks (one solo, one assist). Hibbs again led the team in blocks with three (1-2).

The Spartans started the match against the Roadrunners by winning the first set 25-20, never relinquishing the lead from the first serve. For the set, SJSU hit .371 (16-3-35). Over the next three sets, San José State hit just .077.

"While we are looking for our first win, we are becoming more resilient and growing in our emotional maturity," said Spartan head coach Jolene Shepardson.

San José State travels to the Windy City next weekend for the Chicago State Tournament. The Spartans face South Dakota State, Chicago State, Grand Canyon and UMass Lowell.
