Minnesota record: 2-1. The Golden Gophers lost at TCU, 30-7, on September 13.
San José State-Minnesota series: The Golden Gophers lead the series, 2-1. Minnesota won last year's meeting, 43-24, at TCF Bank Stadium. The three games in this series were played in Minneapolis. Last year was the first outdoor meeting between these teams. The first two contests were played in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. San José State's one win in the series was a 39-30 victory on September 12, 1992.

Going for a 2-1 record: San Jose State can have a 2-1 win-loss record for the fourth time since 2006 with a victory in Minneapolis. Recently, the Spartans were 2-1 in 2012, 2008, 2006 and 2000.
Aiming for a third win vs. the Big Ten: San Jose State has wins over Big Ten Conference members Minnesota and Illinois. Overall, the Spartans are 2-6 against the Big Ten. Of the original 10 members in the Big Ten, San José State previously played Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ohio State.
Turnovers & takeaways do mean something: San José State `s turnover margin (+0.50) coincides with the outcome of the first two games this season. Against North Dakota, the Spartans came up with a pair of takeaways and did not lose ball once. At #5-Auburn, San Jose State was charged with three interceptions and mishandled a center snap in punt formation leading to a quick touchdown. The Spartans did force two fumbles, but did not turn either change of possession into points.
National leader in punt return average: In games played through September 13, San Jose State is the Football Subdivision (FBS) national leader in punt return average at 36.5 yards per return. The Spartans have just two returns, both against North Dakota, in the first two games. San Jose State called for a fair catch on each of the two Auburn punts.
Spartans make it 10-2 when rushing for 150: San Jose State opened the 2014 season with 150 yards rushing in the North Dakota win. Since 2011, the Spartans are 10-2 in games in which they gained 150 or more yards rushing. The two losses were to Navy in 2013 and UCLA in 2011.
