MEN'S SOCCER TICKETS
Tickets for all San José State men's soccer home games are free for all SJSU students, faculty and staff with a valid Tower Card. Adult tickets are $5.00, youth (12 years old and under) are $3.00 and any child wearing a jersey gets in for $1.00 on select match days.
Groups of 20 or more can purchase discounted tickets at $3.00 per person. The Ticket Office opens one hour prior to kickoff at Spartan Soccer Field or can be purchased by calling the San José State Ticket Office at 408-924-SJTX (7589).
COLUNGA TOP-25 IN ASSISTS NATIONALLY
In the latest statistical ranking from the NCAA (9/15), Johnathan Colunga (So., MF, Lindsay, Calif.) is 21st in the nation in assists with three.
Colunga's three assists lead the Western Athletic Conference. He is also No. 33 in the nation, and second in the league, in assists per game (0.60).
KNIBBS TOPS IN SCORING
Rory Knibbs (So., F, London, England) is 36th in goals (3), good for third in the WAC, and 58th in the nation in points (7). His point total ranks fourth in the conference.
Knibbs also ranks 56th in goals per game (0.60) and 61st in points per game (1.40) among Division I strikers.
SPARTANS IN THE TOP-100 IN FIVE STATISTICAL CATEGORIES
In the latest statistical release from the NCAA, San José State can boast a top-100 ranking in five of the 11 categories.
The side is 70th in total goals (7), 73rd in scoring offense (1.40g/game) and 89th in total points (19). In addition, the Spartans rank 91st in points per game (3.80), and 99th in assists per game (1.0).
LAST TIME OUT
Sacramento, Calif. - The San Jose State men's soccer team tied its match at 1-1 with Sacramento State in the 55th minute, but allowed a goal just four minutes later and fell 2-1 on Friday, September 12.
"We played poorly in the first half," head coach Simon Tobin said. "We were much better in the second half, but gave up that costly second goal after getting ourselves back into the game."
Uriel Ayala (So., MF, Fort Bragg, Calif.) played a beautiful pass into the box for Greg Harte (Fr., F, Cork, Ireland). Harte dove and headed the ball inside the near post for a 1-1 tie at the 54:49 mark.
The Spartans (1-4-0) had been chasing the equalizer since a 23rd minute, after Cylus Sandoval scored for the Hornets.
After San Jose State tied the game, Sacramento State (1-2-1) came right back and got what would turn out to be the game-winner at the 58:29 mark.
The Spartans out shot the Hornets 14-8 including 10-4 in the second half. Frankie Beauchamp (Sr., MF, San Francisco, Calif.) led the side with three shots.
Two keepers played for San Jose State. Emmanuel Espinoza (Jr., GK, San Jose, Calif.) made two saves in the first half and allowed one goal. In the second half Felix Petermann (So. GK, Berlin Germany), in his first action of the year, stopped three shots, but took the loss.
SCOUTING PACIFIC
The Tigers, members of the West Coast Conference, enter the match with San José State with a 0-4-0 record. Pacific has surrendered an average of more than three goals in each of their four games this year. The team is playing its fifth of six road games to open its season.
In records since 1954, San José State holds a dominating 21-1-0 lead in the series, however this will be the first meeting since 1985, when Pacific discontinued the program.
Pacific's three tallies in 2014 have come from freshman Tristan Blackmon (2G, 4 PTS) and sophomore Esteban De la Torre (1G, 2 PTS). Blackmon also leads the side with seven shots.
Two freshman have seen time in goal for the Tigers. Josh Adachi has a 3.27 GAA and .536 save percentage in 247 minutes. Curtis Goldsmith has a 3.20 GAA and .667 save percentage in 112 minutes of action.
Head Coach Ryan Jordan is in his first season leading the UOP program. In five season's at NAIA Cal Baptist he amassed a 60-30-10 record.
SCOUTING SAINT MARY'S
The Gaels, members of the West Coast Conference, host Seattle U on Friday before welcoming the Spartans to Moraga on Sunday. Saint Mary's started the season 0-2-0, but have won their last three including a 2-1 overtime win at No. 4 Washington.
In records since 1954, San José State holds a 19-10-2 lead in the series. In the four matches played in Moraga since 2000, the Spartans are 2-1-1, with the last meeting a 0-0 tie in 2011.
Saint Mary's six goals have come from six different players. Michael Semenza, one of the six with a goal, leads the side with three assists and six shots.
Andre Rawls has played every minute in goal for the Gaels. He has allowed six goals among the 34 shots which have reached his line. He has a 1.16 GAA and .824 save percentage.
Head Coach Adam Cooper is in his ninth season leading the Saint Mary's program. In eight seasons he has a 64-62-32 record.
