PALO ALTO, Calif. - Freshman Josue Gonzalez finished the 8k course in 24:19 good enough for his second career top-20 finish as the San José State men's cross country team competed in the Stanford Invitational Saturday morning.
"We had some very good improvements," said cross-country assistant coach Brad Wick. "I think we can do even better in a couple weeks at the Santa Clara Invitational."
Gonzalez led the Spartans finishing 20th overall in a field of 361 runners.
Jannik Ernst (71st, 24:56), Craig Huff (137,25:28), Ben Branagh (141, 25:30), Matthew Stephens (195, 25:54), Ian Young (349, 29:35) rounded out the San José State finishers.
The Spartans finished 12th out of 17 teams.
Stanford took the top two places as Jose Rosa and Maxim Korolev both completed the course in 23:16. Washington State with 73 points finished in the top spot, beating out UC Santa Barbara (74) and Stanford (75).
San José State will hit the course once again on Saturday, October 18 at the Santa Clara Invitational.
