San José State University’s top doubles team of Marie Klocker and Gaelle Rey will compete in the 2014 edition of the prestigious Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. The tournament, held at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., is in its 31st year of existence and consistently features some of the nation’s top talent.
As a qualifying draw, Klocker and Rey, the 46th-ranked doubles team in the nation and the highest-ranked pair in the Mountain West, will have to win three consecutive matches to advance to the main draw, which begins Thursday, Oct. 2.
Main draw singles semifinalists, main draw doubles finalists and main draw consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 6-9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
Klocker and Rey will open play on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 9:00 a.m. against Ester Goldfield and Alyssa Smith of Duke. Smith and teammate Rebecca Smaller defeated the Spartans tandem by an 8-2 margin during the 2014 Duke Fab Four Invite held earlier this month.
