Ann Arbor, Mich. --- San José State shot a five-under par 279 as a team Sunday and jumped up four spots to finish in a tie for fourth place at the Wolverine Intercollegiate in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Spartans' 279 was the second lowest round of the entire tournament. Second only to host Michigan's 278 in the first of three rounds on the 6,704-yard University of Michigan Golf Course.

"This was a step in the right direction for us," said Spartans' head coach John Kennaday. "I think we learned a lot from this tournament. It's good to get experience playing back east because we very well could be back here for a regional."

San José State was led Sunday by Scott Munger, who tied for the day's lowest individual round with a five-under 66. He made four birdies on his second nine for a 32. Munger finishes his first-career tournament as a Spartan in a tie for third place, shooting 70-72-66-208 (-5).

Defending medalist Cody Blick was also a part of SJSU's run on Sunday. He entered the day five strokes back of the lead, and fired a two-under 69. An unfortunate double-bogey on his 18th hole held Blick from winning back-to-back times at the Wolverine Intercollegiate. He shot 70-68-69-207 (-6) and finished one stroke behind Michigan's Kyle Mueller.

"Cody played a brilliant round of golf today," Kennaday said. "He was playing to win, and he just came up a little bit short. He did everything right today, but it just didn't work out on the 18th hole."

Matthew Ashley and Landon Polterock both had bounce-back rounds. After a 77 in Saturday's second round, Ashley made five birdies Sunday and shot a one-over 72. Polterock also shot a 72 Sunday, improving four strokes from round two. Ashley and Polterock finished +9 for the tournament and in a tie for 42nd place.

Felix Möesmang had his best round of the tournament on the final day, a one-over 72. He finished in a tie for 55th place shooting 74-79-72-225 (+12).

"Guys did a great job of sticking to the gameplan today," Kennaday added. "The guys went out and played their game."

Michigan shot three over par as a team in round three, but walked away as the tournament champions after shooting 845 (-7).

San José State's next tournament is the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Burlington, Iowa beginning on September 14.
