Senior quarterback Blake Jurich and junior midfielder Kareli Rodriguez are the August Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month, presented by ScholarShare.
Jurich led San Jose State to a 42-10 win over North Dakota, passing for three touchdowns and scoring a fourth on a 2-yard run. In his first start, Jurich completed 22-of-25 passes for 250 yards without an interception. He also ran four times for 20 yards, which included the 2-yard touchdown run, and had his career-long 20-yard run in the game.
Rodriguez gave the women's soccer team its first victory of the season on August 31 when she netted a game-winner in the 13th minute against Sacramento State. The goal gave San José State a 1-0 victory, the team's first at its new home, Spartan Soccer Field. It also gave first-year head coach Lauren Hanson her first victory with the Spartans.
