Spartans Finish 9th In Santa Clara Invitational

Santa Clara, Calif. – The San José State men’s cross-country team finished ninth in the field of 23 in the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational Saturday in Santa, Calif.

Freshman Josue Gonzalez continued his strong running, finishing ninth overall out of 182 runners. Gonzalez finished fourth amongst collegiate runners, trailing only a trio of runners from Oklahoma State. The ninth place finish marked the third time the freshman ended in the top-20 in as many races.

Ben Branagh also had a solid showing for the Spartans, placing 17th with a time of 24:03.8, while Jannik Ernst (52nd, 24:32.0), Craig Huff (79th, 24:54.93) and Ian Young (171st, 26:47.47.5) rounded out the field of SJSU runners.

Justin Marpole, an unattached runner, led the field of 182 with a time of 23:38.9, while Oklahoma State finish atop of the team standings with 30 points.

San José State will be back in action on Friday, October 31, for the Mountain West Cross-Country Championships in Fresno, Calif.
