Gonzalez Earns Second MW Weekly Honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Announced Tuesday, San José State freshman Josue Gonzalez was named the Mountain West Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week.

Gonzalez was named the Mountain West men’s cross-country athlete of the week for the second time this season.

Gonzalez continued his strong running for the Spartans, finishing ninth overall out of the field of 182 runners posting a time of 23:59.0 in the 8k course at Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif., on October 18. The ninth place finish was the lowest for the freshman, and the 23:59 ranks second in the Mountain West.

Gonzalez was the top finisher among the more than 30 freshmen from schools such as Stanford, Cal, Utah State, Saint Mary’s, Sacramento State and New Mexico State. The Arcadia, Calif., native also finished fourth amongst collegiate competitors trailing only a trio of runners from #4 Oklahoma State.

San José State will be back in action on Friday, October 31 in the Mountain West Conference Championship in Fresno, Calif. Meet time is set for 10:00 a.m. PT.
