Three Spartans With Double-Digit Kills

Albuquerque, N.M.-Three Spartans recorded double-digit kills as the San José State volleyball team fell at New Mexico 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-14) Saturday afternoon in Albuquerque, N.M.

Sara Hibbs led the team with 11 kills, while Nandyala Gama and Tyanna Roy each recorded 10 kills in the match. Roy led the team with four blocks, two solo and two assists.

Allison Meehan recorded her fourth double-double on the season with 35 assists and 11 digs. She also had service ace and a solo block. Yavianliz Rosado recorded 22 digs, her fifth match with 20 or more digs this season. She also had two assists and an ace.

For the match, the Spartans hit .013, but hit .229 in the 25-23 win in the first set. The team sprinted out to a 6-2 lead and never relinquished it. Gama put down the final kill of the set for the San José State win.

Over the final three sets, San José State hit -.049 (27-33-122) and had just five kills in the fourth set. The team had the lead just once, to start the second set, before the Lobos took over the match.

San José State returns home for four matches over the next two weeks. The team hosts Nevada on Tuesday, October 28, and Fresno State on Thursday, October 30. Both matches start at 6 p.m., inside of Spartan Gym, located on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets.
