MORAGA, Calif. - The San José State women's tennis team made the most of a rain-shortened second day of play at the Saint Mary's Invitational. Each of the six Spartans participating in the tournament won her only singles match of the day, with the remaining doubles and singles matches pushed to Sunday.
Coming off her first career victory as a Spartan Friday, Abbie Pahz coasted past UC Davis' Freddie Sleiffer, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the white bracket quarterfinals. Pahz will face Washington's Riko Shimizu at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Julianna Bacelar, the third overall seed in the white division, picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over San Francisco's Milica Hadzi-Tanovic and will play Parminder Kaur of Saint Mary's, also at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
In consolation singles action, Malin Cubukcu, Marie Klocker, Gaelle Rey and Jessica Willett recorded wins and will play again Sunday, weather permitting.
