Las Vegas, Nev.-- Megan Osland and My Leander each shot their best rounds of the 2014-15 season and helped the San Jose State women's golf team move into fifth place at 589 after two rounds of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas.
Osland is currently tied for sixth at even-par 144 after shooting a two-under 70 in the second round. Despite starting with bogeys on two of her first four holes, she responded with back-to-back-to-back birdies on holes 5, 6, and 7. Over her final 11 holes, she made 10 pars and a birdie on #13.
"Megan did a good job for us today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "She had another solid round for us and finished strong with pars on the final two holes."
Leander is tied for 21st at three-over 147 for two rounds. She shot a season-low 69 during her round and made an eagle on the par-5, 508-yard #2. Leander hit her hybrid 220 yards to the green, downhill and down wind. She then sank a 90-foot putt for her eagle.
"My played the opposite of yesterday," said Dormann. "Making the eagle sent My on her way to having a good round. She figured out the wind and had a better round today compared to Sunday."
Regan De Guzman shot a 75 and is tied for 25th at 148, while Kathleen Rojas and Elizabeth Schultz are tied for 58th at 153. Both shot a 78 for their round.
San Jose State shot a 292 in the second round, the third-lowest team score of the day, and is fifth overall at 589. The team is just four shots from fourth-place Minnesota, five shots from third place (UNLV) and seven shots from second (UC Riverside). San Diego State leads the tournament at 575, while Aztec Haleigh Krause leads the field at 11-under 133.
"We are now back in position to have a good finish at the tournament. We need four good scores on Tuesday," stated Dormann.
Final round action begins Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
