Gama Hits .414 In Spartan Loss

San José, Calif.-- Nandyala Gama hit a season-best .414 for the San José State volleyball team Tuesday night in the Spartans 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-23) loss to Nevada in a Mountain West match at Spartan Gym.

Gama led all Spartan hitters with her .414 average. She recorded a team-high 15 kills on 29 attempts and just three errors. Gama was the only Spartan to have double-digit kills in the match. The four other San José State hitters combined for 13 kills in the match.

Nevada used a tough serve to record 11 aces on the Spartans, while San José State had just four aces (two each by Kiely Pieper and Jamie Hirai) and nine service errors.

The Spartans jumped out early in the first set, taking an 8-2 lead behind the serving of Sara Hibbs. However, Nevada slowly started chipping away at the lead and took the lead for good on one of the seven aces in the set at 10-9. In all, the Wolf Pack used a 23-8 scoring run to win the first set 25-16.

The Wolf Pack won the second set 25-17, and jumped out to a 15-10 lead in the third set. San José State slowly got back into the set and tied the score at 23-23 on a Sara Hibbs kill before Nevada scored the final two points for the 25-23 win.

San José State continues its homestand this Thursday with a conference match against Fresno State beginning at 6 p.m., inside Spartan Gym.
