San Jose, Calif. (10/29/14) - The San José State women's soccer team will travel to Fresno State on Friday, October 31, to compete in a pivotal Mountain West Conference match. With a win, and a Boise State loss or tie, the Spartans will qualify for the upcoming Mountain West Championships beginning on Tuesday, November 4, at San Diego State. Match time for Friday is slated for 7:00 p.m. PT.

LAST TIME OUT
SAN JOSE, Calif. (10/26/14) - Senior Gabriella Stange scored on a penalty kick in the 107th minute, as the San José State women's soccer team defeated Air Force, 2-1, in its final home match of the season.
San José State (7-8-3, 4-5-1) was rewarded with a penalty kick after Alexis Venegas was taken down inside of the penalty box. Stange stepped up and beat Air Force (7-9-1, 4-5-1) goalkeeper, Alex Kahlley to the right for the game-winning goal.
In the 84th minute, Carley McBeath put the Spartans up 1-0 with a shot from 25 yards outside the box. McBeath's shot from the right side of the pitch found its way over the outstretched hands of Kahlley for the go ahead goal. The mark was the second of the season for McBeath.
However, Air Force would respond just minutes later. Brooke Rittman maneuvered her way from the left to right side of the box. Rittman then took the shot with her right foot and beat Zoe Makrigiannis with a shot to the left for the equalizer.
McBeath nearly earned her second goal of the day and the game-winner in the 94th minute off a free kick. McBeath took an attempt from nearly 30 yards out. The shot hit the bottom of the top post and seemed to cross the goal line, but Kahlley was able to jump on the ball to keep the match going.
The San José State defense held Air Force to just four shots, while taking 21 attempts. The four chances for Air Force was least amount of opportunities the Spartans have allowed all season. Air Force was also held without a corner kick in the match, while the Spartans took six.

SCOUTING FRESNO STATE
Fresno State enters the Mountain West regular season finale with an overall record of 4-15-0, while showcasing a 3-7-0 record in the Mountain West.
The Bulldogs are led by Sanger, Calif., native Jaycee Bingham. The senior has been the lone bright spot for the Bulldogs this season, entering the final weekend leading the Mountain West in goals (10) and points (22).
SERIES WITH THE BULLDOGS
San José State trails the all-time series with Fresno State, 15-6-2. In the last five meetings between the two squads, the Spartans won consecutive meetings in 2008 and 2009, while Fresno won consecutive matches in 2013 and 2012. The teams played to a draw in 2010.
FINISHING STRONG
The Spartans have won four of its past five matches, outscoring its opponents, 9-5 over the span. The winning has come at the right time, as the Spartans have put themselves in position to quality for the upcoming Mountain West Championships.
SHUTOUT
Junior goalkeeper Zoe Makrigiannis recorded her sixth shutout of the season in the Spartans 3-0 win over Colorado State on Oct. 19, tying former SJSU keeper Meghan Maiwald for the most shutouts in a single season.
SPARTAN DEFENSE
Through 18 games the Spartans have shutout six of its 18 opponents, allowing just 18 goals, second in the Mountain West. The 0.95 goals-against average also ranks second in the conference.
Makrigiannis is third in the Mountain West in goals-against average (0.97) and is second in shutouts (6), while her .788 save percentage places her third in the conference.
ON DECK FOR THE SPARTANS
With a win and a Boise State loss or tie, the San José State Spartans will secure a spot in the Mountain West Championships set to begin on Tuesday, Oct. 4 hosted by San Diego State. SJSU would face the #3 seed if it were to qualify in the field of six.
