The San José State University Division of Intercollegiate Athletics is one of several local organizations participating in the American Heart Association's Silicon Valley Heart and Stroke Walk, Saturday, October 11.
The 5K walk highlights a full morning of festivities and activities beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the KLA-Tencor Campus located at 1 Technology Drive in nearby Milpitas, California. The walk starts at 10:00 a.m., and precedes closing ceremonies at 11:45 a.m.
The Heart & Stroke Walk's goal is to increase awareness of stroke and heart disease, highlight stories of survivors who made lifestyle changes to live healthier lives and raise money to help fund critical cardiovascular disease research and education.
The Heart Walk celebrates those who made lifestyle changes and encourages many more to take the pledge to live healthier lifestyles while raising the dollars needed to fund life-saving research and initiatives.
Event organizers set an overall goal of raising $650,000. The Spartans' portion of the goal is $10,000 with nearly two-thirds of the goal raised with a week remaining before the 5k Walk.
