Logan, Utah-- Sara Hibbs and Nandyala Gama each recorded double-digit kills, but the San José State volleyball team hit .000 in a 3-1 loss at Utah State Thursday night in a Mountain West match at the Wayne Estes Center.
Hibbs led the Spartans with 14 kills and hit .290 for the match with 31 attempts and five errors. She also had four blocks (1-3), an ace and a dig. Gama added 11 kills and four blocks (2-2).
Others contributing for San José State include Jessica Oneto who led the team with six block assists. Tyanna Roy had eight kills and four digs. Breann Robinson recorded 30 assists and five digs, while Yavianliz Rosado had a team-high 10 digs.
After hitting .040 and -.033 in the first two sets, San José State rebounded somewhat in the third set, rallying to win 25-23 and forcing a fourth set. The Spartans had their best hitting set of the night at .135 (13-8-37).
"Good things are happening when we are able to see clearly and put pressure on teams," said Spartan head coach Jolene Shepardson. "Our players know this. They will figure out how to continually put pressure on our opponents."
San José State travels to Boise State for a match this Saturday at 2 p.m. MDT.
