Men's Basketball Tips Off Regular Season Friday Night

2014-15 REGULAR-SEASON ACTION BEGINS FRIDAY NIGHT

The San José State men's basketball team hosts Bethesda to begin regular-season action this Friday, November 14 at 5:00 p.m. in The Event Center. For tickets, call the Spartan Ticket Office at 408-924-7589. Friday's game can be seen live on the Spartan Digital Network, and can be heard on Stretch Internet Radio.

SPARTANS WIN, 65-58, OVER NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR

Freshman guard Darryl Gaynor, II led the way with 15 points for the Spartans in a 65-58 win over Notre Dame De Namur in the team's final exhibition game on November 8. Jalen James and Rashad Muhammad also finished in double figures, and Leon Bahner collected a game-high 14 rebounds.

JOIN THE SPARTANS AT THE PRESTIGIOUS WOODEN LEGACY

Tickets for the 2014 DIRECTV Wooden Legacy are on sale now! Be there when the San José State opens up one of the most prestigious annual college basketball tournaments on Thursday, November 27 at 8:00 p.m. against Washington in Titan Gym. The tournament will be held at two sites with the opening two rounds being played Thursday and Friday, November 27 and 28) at Titan Gym on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. Four games, including the championship contest, will be played at Honda Center on Sunday, November 30 in Anaheim, Calif. The Thanksgiving weekend event also includes: Long Beach State, Princeton, San Diego, UTEP, Washington, Western Michigan and Xavier.

WILLIAMS DEFINES PRODUCTION INCREASE

Senior Jaleel Williams had the MW's fifth-largest increase in per game scoring last season, averaging 8.8 points more than he had in 2012-13. He also improved his rebounding by 4.3 per game, which was the third-largest improvement in the MW in

BAKER & ROGERS SET TO DEBUT FOR SJSU

Jordan Baker, a 2012-13 All-WCC honorable mention at Pepperdine, is set to make his Spartan debut as a point guard this season. He led Pepperdine in scoring with 13.6 points per game in 2012-13. Frank Rogers also redshirted last season but is ready for action this year. Rogers played in 28 games for San Francisco in 2012-13.

SPARTANS SET PACE FROM BEYOND THE ARC

San José State shot 10 for 20 from three-point range in the 84-65 win over Cal State East Bay. Jaleel Williams hit all three of his attempts from beyond the arc in the first half. Rashad Muhammad, Jalen James and Isaac Thornton each hit two three-pointers and Darryl Gaynor, II added one. Muhammad finished the 2013-14 with a Mountain West leading 75 threes.

SPARTANS SIZE UP

The Spartans have added depth in the big-man department for the 2014-15 season. Freshmen Leon Bahner and Ryan Singer stand 6-foot-11 and 6-foot-9 respectively, while junior transfer Ivo Basor stands 6-foot-8. Frank Rogers, listed at 6-foot-9, is ready for action this year after redshirting the 2013-14 season. These players will join the seven-foot sophomore Matt Pollard in the Spartans' frontcourt.

THREE-STAR POINT GUARD SIGNS WITH SJSU

Freshman guard Daryll Gaynor, II signed with San José State as a three-star recruit by both Scout and ESPN in April of 2014. A graduate of Durango High School in Las Vegas, Nev., Gaynor led his team in scoring at 24.9 points per game. He was a first-team All-Sunset Region and All-Northwest Division honoree.

ABOUT BETHESDA UNIVERSITY

The Bethesda Flames are a Division I member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) located in Anaheim, Calif. The team finished 8-20 in 2013-14, and was led by freshman Jamelle Hollieway at 13.1 points per game. The Flames are out to an 0-3 start in 2014-15. The team suffered a 62-50 loss at Biola on November 11.

TWO NEW COACHES JOIN WOJCIK'S STAFF

Mike Lepore and Tyler Ojanen joined the Spartans coaching staff beginning with the 2014-15 season. Lepore spent the last two years as the director of basketball operations at Saint Louis University when the Billikens had their best two-year stretch of success with a combined 55-14 record. Ojanen comes to the Spartans from Saint Mary's College where he was also the director of basketball operations from 2009-13. Ojanen made three trips to the NCAA Tournament and two NIT Tournaments with the Gaels.
