TOUGH OVERTIME STRETCH ENDS WITH 73-68 LOSS TO PORTLAND

San José State led by as many as 13 in the second half, but Portland came back to force overtime where a Spartan scoring drought lasted over four minutes. The Spartans were out to a quick four-point lead in the overtime period before the dry spell allowed Portland to win the game, 73-68.

BAKER & ROGERS MAKE IMMEDIATE IMPACT

Point guard Jordan Baker and forward Frank Rogers led San José State in scoring with 17 and 16 points respectively in their first game as Spartans against Portland on November 16. The two combined to shoot 50 percent (12-24) from the floor. It was the first game in over a year for both players who sat out the 2013-14 season as redshirt transfers.

Jordan Baker SET TO FACE HIS OLD TEAM

Jordan Baker's second game in a Spartan uniform will be against Pepperdine, his former team. Baker averaged 11.3 points per game over 59 games in two seasons with the Waves. He was the team's second-leading scorer in 2012-13, his sophomore year, at 11.4 points per game.

LAST MEETING WITH PEPPERDINE

San José State won at Pepperdine 83-77 last season, extending the all-time series lead to 25-20. Jaleel Williams had a career-best 22 points that night, leading the Spartans to their first win of the 2013-14 season.

MORE ABOUT PEPPERDINE

The Waves began the 2014-15 season with an 89-74 win at home over Fresno State. All five starters finished in double-figures with Stacy Davis leading the way with 22 points. Stacy, Jeremy Major and Amadi Udenyi are all returning starters from 2013-14 for Pepperdine. Davis was an All-WCC first-team choice last year, and Major made the conference's All-Freshman team. The Waves are coached by Marty Wilson in his fourth season.
