Men's Basketball Falls To Western Michigan, 79-60, At Wooden Legacy

Fullerton, Calif. --- The San José State men's basketball team was unable to recover from a 15-2 Western Michigan run in the first half, and fell 79-60 on day two of the DIRECTV Wooden Legacy on Friday.The Spartans (1-5) overcame an early 10-point deficit, but Jaleel Williams' three cut the Broncos' lead to, 19-16, with 5:53 left in the first half.From there, Western Michigan (4-2) made four consecutive shots, and piled on two three-pointers as part of a 17-5 run to close out the half, sending the Spartans to the locker room with a 36-21 deficit."I knew they were going to shoot the ball well," said Spartans' head coach Dave Wojcik. "I thought they would come out guns firing and they did. They have nice pieces on their team that understand their role, and that's something we have to learn from."The same Broncos team that went 3-for-24 from beyond the arc a night ago against Long Beach State, shot 10-of-14 from three-point territory against San José State Friday night.

"They came out and were more aggressive than us from the tip," Wojcik said. "We had shots early, and just didn't knock them down. You can only hold down a good team for so long."Western Michigan made four three-point shots to begin the second half. Tucker Haymond hit 3-of-4 from distance and let the Broncos with 20 points.Frank Rogers scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead the Spartans. Jaleel Williams scored five points, the only five points of all the starters for San José State. Jordan Baker, Rashad Muhammad and Ryan Singer came off the bench to score seven each.
