FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) - Tucker Haymond had 20 points with eight rebounds and Connar Tava added 16 points as Western Michigan defeated San Jose State 79-60 on Friday night in the consolation bracket of the Wooden Legacy Tournament.
The Broncos (4-2) shot 55.1 percent from the field and went 10 of 14 on 3-pointers. David Brown scored 11 points and Austin Richie contributed 10.
Frank Rogers paced the Spartans (1-5) with 17 points, but was the only player in double figures for San Jose State. Jordan Baker had seven points and six assists.
Brown and Haymond each hit 3-pointers to cap a 15-2 run late in the first half that pushed the Broncos to a 36-21 halftime lead. Western Michigan coasted in the second half and led 67-42 with 5:22 left after Haymond's two jumpers.
Western Michigan will take on San Diego next in the tournament on Sunday, while San Jose State plays Princeton.
