COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West Conference announced Tuesday that San José State goalkeeper, Zoe Makrigiannis, was named First Team Mountain West for her play during the 2014 season.

The Surrey, B.C., Canada, native became the first Spartan to ever be selected to a Mountain West All-Conference team.

“I am very proud of Zoe,” said head coach Lauren Hanson. “ She put together another complete game in our last match against of rival Fresno State, and she deserves the recognition because she has put in the work.”

Makrigiannis was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week once this season following the SJSU 1-0 win over Portland State on Sept. 21. The junior had registered seven shutouts, a single season school record, in 19 games, helping the Spartans to an 8-8-3 overall mark and 5-5-1 in conference play. The eight wins were the most for the Spartans since winning going 12-7-2 in 2010.

“All season it has been a team effort to get the number of shutouts, especially breaking a single season record that has stood since 2010,” Hanson said.

The junior anchored the Spartans down the stretch, winning five of its final six games while allowing just five goals.

“For her to be recognized it meant that our team had a great season,” said Hanson
