SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State University women's tennis team opened the 2014 San José State Invitational on Friday at Spartan Courts.
The Spartans kicked off the sun-filled day by taking four of six matches from Santa Clara. Gaelle Rey defeated Delphine Rouvillois in a tightly-contested three sets, Julianna Bacelar bested Chelby Cooke, Jessica Willett breezed past Riley Morgan and Justine Deleval downed Elaine Chesoni in her fall debut.
In the afternoon, San José State took five of six matches from the University of San Francisco, all in straight sets. Rey, Abbie Pahz, Bacelar, Willett and Malin Cubukcu all earned victories for the Spartans.
On Saturday, San José State and Santa Clara will again play in the morning singles slot at 9:30 a.m., and then the Spartans will square off with the Dons in doubles at 12:30 p.m.
