The San José State University baseball program will hold four high school instruction and prospect camps in the month of January. The camps are open to high school players of any grade and skill level, and will be run by members of the Spartans coaching staff. Instruction will focus on the mental and physical fundamentals of pitching, infield, catching and hitting.
Spartans Pitching Skill Instuction and Showcase Camp: January 17-18, 2015
Session 1: January 17-18, 2015 9:00am-11:00am
This two-day training and showcase session will begin with a dynamic warm-up session to help activate the core muscles while promoting a more athletic delivery. Spartans pitching coach Tom Kunis will lead each pitcher through a comprehensive drill set to improve your delivery, build arm strength, and enhance your ability to throw strikes establishing "The Fastball Blueprint," a pitching model Coach Kunis has developed over two decades tutoring pitchers at the Division I level.
Spartans Catching Skill Instruction and Showcase Camp: January 17-18, 2015
Session 1: January 17-18, 2015 9:00am - 11:00am
Limited to just eight catchers to provide maximum instruction, this comprehensive two-day catching class will develop any high school catcher. Areas that will be covered include stance, blocking, receiving, and throwing drills, as well as live bullpens to put the lessons learned into full use.
Spartans Infield Skill Instruction and Showcase Camp: January 24-25, 2015
Session 1: January 24-25, 2015 9:00am - 11:00am
In this comprehensive two-day infield camp, students will come away with a better understanding of what will help them become an elite infielder. From learning the three types of ground balls that are hit, to the five different throws that all infielders need to learn, each camper will be instructed in backhands, slow rollers and how to take proper angles to enhance their level of play.
Spartans Hitting Skill Instruction and Showcase Camp
Session 1: January 17-18, 2015 11:00am - 1:00pm
Session 2: January 24-25, 2015 11:00am - 1:00 pm
Program emphasis will be on the four Aspects of Hitting: Mechanics - Vision - Swing Adjustments - Hitting Plan. Utilizing the Spartans state-of-the-art hitting facility and led by head coach Dave Nakama, cage work and drills will focus on important fundamentals that make up a perfect swing.
