West Named Mountain West Player Of The Week

San Jose, Calif. - San José State forward Rachol West has earned the Mountain West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor for games played from December 22-28.

West, a sophomore out of Garces Memorial High School in Bakersfield, Calif., led the Spartans with a career-high 19 points in a 102-94 defeat of Sacramento State last Monday.

In 19 minutes off the bench, West went 7-for-13 from the floor (53.8 percent) including 5-for-8 (62.5 percent) from beyond the three-point line. She also grabbed five rebounds, dished out one assists and made one steal in the win.

Trailing 53-43 at the half, the team opened the second period with a 16-5 run capped by a three-pointer by West to put San José State in the lead, 59-58. Her fourth three of the game pushed the Spartan advantage to 65-60 with 14:40 to play and her career-best fifth three-pointer, with 5:02 left in the game, gave the Spartans a 10-point lead, 89-79.

This is the first Mountain West Conference Player of the Week honor of West's career and the first for a Spartan this season.
