Logan, Utah --- The San José State men's basketball team will have to put its Mountain West opener in the rearview mirror as soon as possible after a 61-33 loss, and look ahead to its conference home opener Saturday night.

The Spartans (2-11, 0-1 MW) got out to an 8-3 lead against Utah State, but then saw the Aggies (8-5, 1-0 MW) go on a 32-4 run over the final 16:16 of the first half at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum Wednesday night.

San José State was 2-of-29 from the floor during the stretch, while Jalen Moore hit four of Utah State's nine threes in the period. The Spartans trailed 35-12 at the half.

"We shot the ball 15 more times than them, we just didn't make them," said Spartans' head coach Dave Wojcik. "I thought our effort on the glass was terrific, and we only had 12 turnovers. But at the end of the day it comes down to who puts the ball in the basket more."

Utah State's defense has now held its last six opponents to under 40 percent from the floor and is 5-1 in those contests. San José State finished the game shooting 20 percent (12-of-60) from the floor.

"We got tired," Wojcik said. "Guys aren't used to playing these kinds of minutes. I try and use timeouts and rest them a little bit, but when your legs get tired shots and free throws start to fall short and that's the difference."

Ivo Basor played all 40 minutes of the game and hauled in SJSU's individual season-high of 11 rebounds. Darryl Gaynor II and Ryan Singer were the high scorers for the Spartans with eight points each.

San José State takes on Wyoming in The Event Center Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. PT
